Legal Research and Training Unit
Objective
To facilitate legal research, publications, training, and library services. The Unit led by a Director.
Functions
The Unit performs the following activities:-
- Conduct and facilitate legal research aimed at developing sustainable legal solutions;
- Collaborate with OAG Legal Clinics and Regional Legal Advisory Committees to identify critical legal issues requiring in-depth research;
- Collaborate with law faculties, research institutions, and development partners to produce or adapt research and publications into policy papers supporting law reform and advisory functions;
- Develop and disseminate legal information materials to enhance public legal
awareness;
- Inform divisions, regional offices, and MDAs of current legal developments in
various jurisdictions;
- Prepare and coordinate the publication of legal reports, journals, articles,
bulletins, manuals, analytical reports, and commentaries related to OAG's
functions;
- Conduct systematic assessments and skills gap surveys to identify the training
needs of law officers, state attorneys, and other government officials;
- Design, coordinate, and implement continuing professional development
programs, workshops, and seminars for law officers and state attorneys;
- Develop curricula, training manuals, and competency frameworks for legal
training initiatives;
- Organize and deliver training, sensitization, and capacity-building programs for
MDAs and LGAs on domestic and international legal instruments and processes;
- Manage and maintain the Office's legal library, ensuring access to updated legal
texts, journals, and reference materials in line with global standards;
- Acquire, catalog, and preserve key legal resources including legislative records
and judicial precedents; and
- Develop, operate, and maintain a digital knowledge repository, online legal
information systems, and related ICT infrastructure.
