"The National Development Vision prioritizes Good Governance, Peace, and Security." — President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan
The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has stated that the National Development Vision prioritizes Good Governance, Peace, Security, and Stability, noting that the Judiciary plays a pivotal role in building a nation that upholds justice and tranquility.
The President made these remarks today, January 13, 2026, during the opening of the Annual General Meeting of the Tanzania Judges and Magistrates Association (TMJA), held at the Judiciary Headquarters in Dodoma.
Speaking earlier at the meeting, the Chief Justice of Tanzania, Hon. George Masaju, explained that the High Court of Tanzania utilizes the Kiswahili language in delivering justice to citizens. He noted that once the Office of the Attorney General completes the translation of laws into Kiswahili, the Judiciary will begin delivering judgments in the language.
"I have been informed that the Attorney General is in the final stages of completing the exercise of translating laws into Kiswahili," the Chief Justice stated.
Furthermore, Hon. Masaju mentioned that the Judiciary is proceeding with the process of renaming Resident Magistrate's Courts to Regional Courts. The High Court of Tanzania has been working closely with the Office of the Attorney General, through the Office of the Chief Parliamentary Draftsman, to prepare the Bill that will enable these improvements.
"In this renaming process, we are collaborating very closely with the Attorney General through the Legislative Drafting Department to prepare the Bill," said the Chief Justice.
He explained that the High Court, in collaboration with the Attorney General's Office, intends to reform the structure of the Judicial Officers' Ethics Committees. This aim is to improve the law, strengthen judicial independence, and ensure that the disciplinary management of judicial staff is handled internally within the Judiciary.
"We have collaborated with the Office of the Attorney General to prepare the draft Bill for this matter, and the Bill will be submitted to Parliament soon," the Chief Justice added.
The Attorney General, Hon. Hamza S. Johari, also participated in the TMJA Annual General Meeting.
