Government to Continue improving Legal Services and Access to Justice


The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has officially launched the second phase of the Mama Samia Legal Aid Campaign at the Dole Kizimbani grounds in Zanzibar on June 20, 2026.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Dr. Mwinyi stated that the execution of this campaign is part of the Government's ongoing efforts to improve legal services and enhance access to justice for all citizens.

"This campaign has been a major catalyst in ensuring that citizens, especially the underprivileged, access justice in a timely and efficient manner," said Hon. Dr. Mwinyi.

Furthermore, he noted that the Government has continued to strengthen various legal frameworks, including the enactment of the Legal Aid Act, Chapter 21 of Tanzania, and the Zanzibar Legal Aid Act of 2018, with the aim of improving various legal services.

"Through these laws, the Government continues to establish and implement robust strategies and plans to ensure that citizens access justice timely and equitably," he added.


For his part, the Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs, Hon. Dr. Juma Zuberi Homera, stated that the Government will continue to improve the infrastructure for delivering legal services to citizens. This includes the construction of buildings for various legal institutions, such as the ongoing construction of the Office of the Attorney General in Mtumba, Dodoma.

The Attorney General, Hon. Hamza S. Johari, participated in the launch of the second phase of the Mama Samia Legal Aid Campaign, where he also had the opportunity to visit the pavilions of various institutions providing legal services during the campaign, including the booth of the Office of the Attorney General.

The Office of the Attorney General is actively participating in the Mama Samia Legal Aid Campaign and will continue to provide legal education, advisory services, and dispute resolution to the citizens of Zanzibar from June 20 to July 5, 2026.
