GOVERNMENT OFFERS FREE LEGAL AID SERVICES TO DAR ES SALAAM RESIDENTS

The Attorney General of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hamza S. Johari, has called upon residents of Dar es Salaam and neighboring regions to turn out in large numbers to access free legal advisory services at a Legal Aid Clinic scheduled to take place at Mnazi Mmoja Grounds from 16 to 22 February 2026.

The call was made on 13 February 2026 during a media briefing on the launch of Regional and District Legal Advisory Committees, alongside the commencement of the free Legal Aid Clinic for citizens of Dar es Salaam.

The official guest at the launch is expected to be the Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Albert Chalamila.

Speaking to journalists, the Attorney General emphasized that the initiative aims to ensure legal services are easily accessible to all citizens.

“The main objective of these Legal Aid Clinics is to bring legal services closer to the people, so that citizens can easily access legal guidance and support when they need it,” he said.

The Attorney General also expressed his appreciation to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, for her strong leadership in safeguarding the rule of law, which he noted is a key pillar of national development.

“I sincerely thank Her Excellency the President for her leadership, particularly in strengthening access to legal aid and ensuring that these services are readily available to citizens,” he added.

On the establishment of the Legal Advisory Committees, Hon. Johari explained that their role is to provide legal advice to citizens, public servants, and leaders, with the aim of resolving legal challenges at both regional and district levels.

He noted that the committees are expected to help reduce legal disputes involving the Government, address citizens’ legal complaints, prevent abuse of power, and curb actions that violate laws and procedures.

In addition, the committees will offer legal education to the public to enhance awareness and promote lawful conduct within communities.

Furthermore, the Attorney General confirmed that his office has deployed a team of experienced Government lawyers from his office and other public institutions, who will be available throughout the Legal Aid Clinic period to provide free legal services to all attendees.

“We have prepared a team of qualified Government lawyers who will be on site to provide legal services free of charge to citizens,” he said.

The official launch of the Regional and District Legal Advisory Committees for Dar es Salaam Region will take place on 16 February 2026, followed by the free Legal Aid Clinic from 16 to 22 February 2026 at Mnazi Mmoja Grounds.
