The Office of the Attorney General Vets 2,562 Contracts

The Office of the Attorney General (AG) vetted a total of 2,562 national, regional, and international contracts between July 2025 and March 2026.

This was revealed by the Minister for Constitutional and Legal Affairs, Hon. Dr. Juma Zuberi Homera, while presenting the 2025/2026 Budget Implementation Report and the Revenue and Expenditure Estimates for the Ministry and its affiliated institutions for the 2026/2027 fiscal year in Parliament, Dodoma, on April 24, 2026.

Dr. Homera stated that the vetting process has strengthened the protection of government interests, mitigated risks of financial loss, enhanced accountability in the use of public funds, and ensured that development projects are implemented in accordance with the law and highly productive contracts.

"Honorable Chairperson, the Office also completed the vetting of 396 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs)," said Dr. Homera.

Furthermore, the Minister explained that the Office of the Attorney General supervised 2,821 contracts signed between the Government and various stakeholders. The Office also received seven (7) requests for contract termination; it advised the termination of five (5) contracts in accordance with their respective terms, while recommending that the remaining two (2) continue under existing contractual obligations.

In another development, Dr. Homera highlighted that the AG’s Office successfully supervised negotiations leading to out-of-court settlements.

"A total of 143 disputes and claims were processed. The initial amount claimed before negotiations was Tsh 2.83 trillion. Following these negotiations, the final amount to be paid is Tsh 2.18 trillion; thus, the Government saved Tsh 646.22 billion," Dr. Homera noted.

Additionally, Dr. Homera stated that the Office of the Attorney General oversaw negotiations that led to the signing of nine (9) contracts with a total value of Tsh 7.48 trillion.

The Minister commended the Attorney General for his outstanding performance and the cooperation he extends to the Ministry and its institutions in upholding the country's laws.

"Furthermore, I sincerely thank Hon. Hamza Saidi Johari (MP), the Attorney General, for the cooperation he provides in executing the Ministry’s mandates and for his coordination and supervision of the legal sector at large," said Dr. Homera.

The Budget Speech and the Revenue and Expenditure Estimates for the Ministry and its institutions for the 2026/2027 financial year were read, debated, and subsequently approved by the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania.
