LEGAL CLINIC OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED IN DAR ES SALAAM

The Office of the Attorney General, in collaboration with the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner's Office, has officially launched the Regional and District Legal Advisory Committees for the Dar es Salaam Region. The launch took place on February 16, 2026, followed by a week-long Legal Clinic scheduled from February 16 to 22, 2026, at the Mnazi Mmoja Grounds in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking during the inauguration, the Guest of Honor, Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Hon. Albert Chalamila, urged State Attorneys to provide legal education and advisory services to citizens using simple and accessible language.

“This region faces many legal challenges due to its size and the complexity of commercial and social interactions. Therefore, I urge you to listen to the citizens and educate them using simple language that is easy to understand,” said Hon. Chalamila.

Furthermore, Hon. Chalamila explained that the presence of these committees will help reduce litigation and disputes against the Government, provide legal advisory services, and resolve various legal challenges facing citizens. This will enable State Attorneys to uphold the rule of law and minimize legal grievances from the public.

The Regional Commissioner also called upon the residents of Dar es Salaam and neighboring areas to turn out in large numbers to take advantage of the free legal advisory services.

“I urge the residents of Dar es Salaam to come forward in large numbers to receive these free legal services provided by the Office of the Attorney General,” Hon. Chalamila added.

Earlier, delivering the introductory remarks on behalf of the Attorney General, the Deputy Attorney General, Hon. Samwel M. Maneno, stated that the launch of the Legal Advisory Committee and the Legal Clinic in Dar es Salaam is a continuation of the Government’s sincere efforts to bring legal services closer to the people.

“In a special way, I would like to thank the citizens who have turned out to join us for the launch of this committee,” said the Deputy Attorney General.

Additionally, Hon. Maneno explained that the launched Legal Clinic would focus on providing guidance and empowerment to citizens, offering legal education, and addressing various legal challenges faced by people in their respective areas.

“These are your committees, Hon. Regional Commissioner and District Commissioners. The Office of the Attorney General will cooperate with you fully, and I ask you to utilize them to help citizens resolve their grievances,” Hon. Maneno noted.

The Deputy Attorney General added that through the Legal Advisory Committees being launched across the country, the Office of the Attorney General expects to reach more citizens, particularly in rural areas.

“I call upon State Attorneys to dedicate themselves professionally to listening to citizens' complaints and finding solutions with great expertise,” said the Deputy Attorney General.

The launch ceremony for the Legal Committee and the free Legal Clinic was attended by the Solicitor General, Dr. Ally Possi, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mr. Sylvester Mwakitalu; the Dar es Salaam Regional Administrative Secretary, Mr. Abdul Rajabu Mhinte; and the District Commissioners of the Dar es Salaam Region.

The free Legal Clinic for the residents of Dar es Salaam region commenced on February 16, 2026, and will run until February 22, 2026, where expert State Attorneys will be available to provide various legal services.
